Clinical Research System
Just to make things a little prettier here.
We are developing a system for the UKZN Research Committee to implement in the 8 health clinics at UKZN.
They are:
At this point in time all 8 clinics depend on a cumbersome manual system. All patient details and their medical data are stored in hard copy format. This is time consuming and inefficient.
Though each clinic has their individual needs and modes of operating, our approach is to develop a single "generic system" that can be implemented into each clinic. Each clinic would then be connected to a central database containing patient details and their medical records.
Our "Clinical Research System" is composed of the 5 sub-systems/mini systems:
Test management system: To make the system as generic and dynamic as possible, each clinic will be equipped with a test management system that will allow users of the system to create, modify and delete tests that are conducted within that clinic.
Appointment management system: Allowing users of the system to manage appointments in their respective clinics.
Report management system: Allowing both the Research Committee and the respective clinics to generate statistical reports of patient details and their medical data.
User management system: Patient confidentiality is a primary objective in this system. Naturally, access control features will be built into the system allowing each clinic to view only the patients that belong to their clinic.
A typical scenario from a-z in the day of a clinic:

- Clinic sets up appointment and confirmation sent to patient
- Patient comes in for appointment
- Clinic practitioner logs into system
- Patient details captured onto the system
- Tests are conducted
- Scores for tests are captured onto the system
- Clinic/Research Committee requests a report based on selected patient criteria
- Report generated and sent
